Boboko Mangkup Dance, Traditional Dances From West Java

Boboko Mangkup Dance is one of the traditional dances originating from West Java. This dance is very synonymous with Boboko or Bakul that large size. Boboko Mangkup Dance is one of the traditional dances that are quite popular in West Java and still often performed in events, such as welcoming big guests, weddings, and other events.

For the people of West Java Boboko this is a container or place of life, where when boboko has been filled with rice, then the continuity of life will continue to run. But if boboko has been in the position of bowl or face down like depicting life and condition of society which is difficult. Therefore, people try hard to boboko or basket do not get empty without filled.

Dance Show Boboko Mangkup

At the show, Boboko Mangkup Dance has usually danced by 12 (twelve) dancers, consisting of 1 (one) male dancer, 5 (five) female dancers, and 6 (six) children dancers. On stage, these five female dancers will be spinning around playing boboko with graceful movements. Sometimes the fifth of the dancers seemed pensive looking toward the sky. These dancers will occasionally stretch out their hands and then with the tapering fingers of these dancers dancing on the upside-down boboko.

In this dance, the audience is entertained with various surprises presented, such as when suddenly out the dancers who bring the snake from behind the stage and then make a rowdy atmosphere. Simultaneously the emergence of the snake makes small children scatter and slowly from behind the boboko appeared the female dancers with a headdress like a towering crown.

In the show, Boboko Mangkup Dance is usually accompanied by the strains of traditional musical instruments such as kendang, harmonized barrel salendro, lute tunnel madenda, flute, kolotok, kecrek or cymbals, electric bass, and large gongs. With the musical accompaniment, make this boboko dance performances mangkup is more alive.

In its development, Boboko Mangkup Dance is still continuously preserved and learned by some art galleries that are there. In addition to being featured on major events, this dance is also often performed at other events such as guest reception and cultural festivals.
